Pop, dance and cabaret at Cardiff Mardi Gras

Cardiff’s LGBT Mardi Gras takes place this Saturday at Cooper’s Field.

Forty thousand people are expected to attend the event, which features more than 40 performers and musicians performing throughout the day.

Main stage acts include former Coronation Street actor Adam Rickitt and X Factor stars Same Difference and Lloyd Daniels.

There will also be an appearance from Pineapple Dance Studios' Starman and progressive metal band Blue Gillespie, featuring frontman Gareth David-Lloyd who played Ianto in Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood.

In addition to the main stage, there will be a Gaydar Dance Arena and the Admiral Cabaret Garden will showcase a variety of cabaret acts, including featuring drag acts Miss Penny, Tina Sparkle and Miss Kitty.

Mardi Gras will also see a range of independent night-time events with local clubs and bars hosting a dance-based street party with top international DJs, including Sonique, Fat Tony and Ant Nichols.

Last year’s event was disrupted by alcohol-related violence between local youths. Although the problem was not directly related to Mardi Gras, a number of acts were unable to perform.

This year's festival will take place in a fenced-off area with no alcohol to be brought onto the site.
