Dutch institute warns of increase in suicides among young gay men in Europe

Half of the gay and lesbian youth heard in a survey by the Dutch government had already thought of committing suicide. Almost one in ten boys and one in eight girls say they have tried to kill himself, an attitude that less than half of gay men in general said he had taken.

It is the first time that such data are released in the Netherlands, considered the country of greater acceptance of homosexuality in Europe, and generated an alert to the issue in other European countries.

The situation is "worrying" by the report Just Different, That's All, released by the Netherlands Institute of Social Research (SCP, the acronym in Dutch), which calls attention to the health system in the country to the psychological needs of young people.
